Scór na nÓg 2017 – 2018
Both Ulster Semi Finals of Scór na nÓg have now been completed and the Ulster Finals are due to be held in St Patrick’s High School, Downpatrick (‘Red High’) on Saturday 13th January 2018 at 3.00 pm. Our good wished in the finals go with Omagh St Enda’s Rince Foirne team, Annabel McAteer from Edendork St Malachy’s in Aithriseoireacht, Fintona Pearses in the Ceol Uirlise section and An Charraig Mhór in the Rince Seit section. We wish them every success and hope them can follow in the footsteps of our recent All Ireland winners at the All Ireland Finals in Sligo on 17th February 2018.
The participation of the youth of our clubs in Scór na nÓg this year has surpassed all expectations in the history of Scór in Tír Eoghain with forty three clubs taking part in the various elements. Our target has been set for the golden jubilee of the establishment of the Scór of having all the clubs in Tír Eoghain taking part. Scór na nÓg has always been strong here which is testament to the wonderful and exciting talent that exists in our clubs, the levels of encouragement which is very evident from the families of the young people and the on-going interest which is alive and vibrant at club level.
The stage is now set for the adults in the clubs to display the ability and talent which is also clearly evident this level. Let the standards of participation in Scór na nÓg be equalled in Scór Sinsear. The National records for Scór show that Tír Eoghain is among the top counties in Ireland which puts a significant amount of work into the promotion and development of the Scór ideals of dance, song, storytelling and music.
Coiste Cultúir agus Teanga had initially provisionally set the dates for Scór Sinsear for the end of January but has now decided that the clubs will be given the full month of January for the preparation of performances for the beginning of Scór Sinsear. The clubs and competitors can take a great deal of consolation from the fact that the clubs, who are the main stakeholders in Scór, will very shortly has a significantly bigger say in what the content of competitions should be.
Below is the proposed schedule for the remaining competitions for both Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsear up to the All Ireland Finals of Scór Sinsear on 14th April in Sligo.
