Scór Events for 2017

January 9th, 2017

The second part of the Scór season springs into action this coming weekend with the Scór na nÓg Ulster Final being held at Galbally Community centre on Saturday 14th January at 5.00 pm. This event is one of the biggest Scór events to be held in Tír Eoghain for many years. All of the youth talent from all of Ulster’s nine counties will be in attendance at the Ulster Finals this weekend. The prize for the winners in this competition will be an appearance at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast in the All Ireland Finals on Saturday 11th February 2017 beginning at 3.00 pm. The last All Ireland Finals in Ulster were held in Derry in 2013 with a gap of thirteen years since the All Ireland’s in the Ulster Hall in 2000. The procedure now will be that the All Ireland Finals will go round the four provinces on a rotational basis which would mean the Finals will return to Ulster again in four years’ time.

On Saturday next the second half of the year’s events will be on display in Galbally with the firm hope that the Rince Foirne dancers from Omagh St Enda’s, the Ballad Group from Killyclogher and the Instrumental music group from Donaghmore will qualify for the All Ireland Finals in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast in early February.

We wish our competitors the very best of luck in the Ulster Finals and hope that all three clubs can emulate the success achieved by Donaghmore Ballad Group at the All Ireland Finals in Killarney last year when they became All Ireland champions

Meanwhile now the adults from the clubs in Tír Eoghain will begin or have already begun the preparations for the Tyrone championships which are scheduled to start  on the first weekend in February with the further qualifying competitions continuing every fortnight until the County Finals on 5th March. The adults from the clubs will then follow the same pattern as the Scór na nÓg competitors. One of the senior semi-finals will be held in Tyrone with the Ulster Final being held in Threemilehouse, Co Monaghan. This too will be followed by the All Ireland Finals being held in The Waterfront Hall in Belfast in the beginning of May 2017.

Therefore we urge all the adult clubs and their competitors to become involved in the Scór movement an make that big effort to follow in the footsteps of the very successful Derrytresk club in becoming All Ireland Champions at last year’s finals, also in Killarney.

Again all encouragement is offered to adult competitors to become involved in Scór bearing in mind that Tyrone clubs continue to top the National Honours list All Ireland Titles. Let’s stay on top and make a major contribution to the preservation of our national culture and heritage.
