TYRONE SUPPORTERS ARE A GLASS ACT
Eight of the most valuable pieces of plate glass to be found anywhere in Ireland were set in place and unveiled last night (Thursday) at the new Tyrone GAA Centre at Garvaghey. They recognise the efforts of the 272 Garvaghey Patrons who have contributed £1.36m to the £6.7m facility.
An t-Ochtagán Ghloine has been designed, created and gifted to Tyrone GAA by Omagh-based Colm McCrory of Spires Art. ThePatrons’ names are etched for life on the iconic eight-sided specially commissioned piece in the foyer of the Centre.
Noel Gormley, who became the first Garvaghey Patron in 2009, unveiled the glass piece at the annual Club Tyrone Members’ night along with Tyrone County Chairman, Ciaran Mclaughlin and Club Tyrone Chairman, Hugh McAleer. The event was attended by 400 Tyrone Gaels who also heard Mickey Harte announce this Sunday’s team to face Donegal in Ballybofey. The draw for the Hunky Dorys 2013 Tyrone Club Championships was also made.
As part of the continuing drive to raise funds for the support of Tyrone GAA a new 4 week initiative was also launched last night to attract Club Tyrone members. The ‘Hunt for One Hundred’ is spearheaded by former Tyrone great Patsy Forbes to recruit one hundred new members. The Ardboe clubman, who is also a European champion sprinter, is enlisting the support of thirty individuals to recruit 100 new members across the county.
Club Tyrone has grown to become a key part of Tyrone GAA, contributing over £3m since the turn of the Millennium. Membership is £500 per year which supports the development of the GAA at County level. The ‘Hunt for One Hundred’ will host a special open night at Garvaghey on Thursday 13 June from 7.00pm. Everyone with the well-being of Tyrone GAA at heart is welcome.
