Scór competitions will spring into action in the next few weeks. We are currently heading into the Ulster Final of Scór na nÓg 2014. The final will be held next Saturday 25th January 2014 at 7.00 pm in the excellent facility of Silverbridge Harps GAC in Co Armagh. Carrying the flag for Tír Eoghain, in what promises to be a very competitive Ulster Final, will be the very experienced Rince Foirne team from Omagh St Enda’s. This team has been knocking at the door of a national title for a few years now and the feeling is that this could well be their year. They continue to improve and hopefully we will see an even better performance from them this year coupled with success in both the Ulster and All Ireland Finals.
In the Amhránaíocht Aonair, Solo Singing, competition will be the talented singer from the Derrytresk Club, Loinnir McAlliskey. Loinnir has impressed at all the Scór na nÓg events this year so far and we look forward to her providing another impressive performance at the finals on Saturday. For those who have attended the McKenna Cup games in Omagh Loinnir has been the singer who has led the singing of Amhrán na bhFiann at these games.
In the Ballad group section a very youthful Omagh St Enda’s will be our hopes for a further Ulster title at this discipline. This group have been together for a few years and their blend of voices provides us with a very pleasant presentation which will surprize the audience with their ability.
All our good wishes go with the contestants to Silverbridge on Saturday where we hope Tír Eoghain will bring home the first Ulster titles for 2014 and begin the journey for an All Ireland title in March.
The successful competitors will then progress to the All Ireland Final to be held in Theatre Royale in Castlebar on Saturday 1st March at 3.00 pm. They will, of course, be accompanied by the very knowledgeable Tráth na gCeist team form Trillick who have already qualified for the All Ireland Finals this year. This part of the All Ireland Finals has been changed from the Friday night (!st March) to the Saturday morning (11.00 am) also in the Theatre Royale in Castlebar. This will be Trillicks second successive All Ireland Final in this competition. Our good wishes and support travel with them. Hopefully they will be accompanied by other Tír Eoghain clubs depending on the results of this weekend’s Ulster Final.
Meanwhile clubs in Tyrone are preparing for the beginning of Scór Sinsear competitions. The first rounds this year will be held in Newtownstewart on Saturday 8th February at 5.00 pm and on Sunday 9th February 2014 also at 5.00 pm in Eglish. The semi finals will be held on Friday 21st February at 8.00 pm and Sunday 23rd February at 5.00 pm. Venues for the semi finals will be confirmed in due course. The county final this year will be held in Killeeshil Community Centre on Sunday 2nd March 2014 at 3.00 pm. Clubs and patrons are asked to note there will be only two first round venues in this year’s competition.
The Ulster Semi Final for Tyrone clubs will be against clubs for Monaghan and Cavan and will be held in the Dún Uladh Centre in Killyclogher on 14th March with the Ulster Final on Saturday 22nd March in Downpatrick.
