February 21st will be the 25th anniversary of the tragic death of Aidan McAnespie. On that day in 1988 Aghaloo were due to play Killeeshil. To mark this significant anniversary a number of Aghaloo and Killeeshil players of that era, with others, will take the field on Saturday 23rd February at 4.00pm to compete for the Aidan McAnespie Trophy. This poignant commemorative event, at Aghaloo’s field, will be attended by leading GAA personalities and officials at club, county, provincial and national level. These dignitaries will include our County Chairman Ciaran McLaughlin, Ulster GAA Secretary Danny Murphy and former GAA President Dr. Mick Loftus.
It is expected that many of those who were present or were touched by the events of 21st February 1988 will avail of this opportunity to connect with the younger generation to recall what was a profoundly distressing time not only for Aidan’s family and friends but for the wider GAA community.
