Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain got their eagerly awaited 2015 schedule underway with a heat of the annual 5-a-side ‘Indoor Hurling and Camogie’ for Tyrone primary schools taking place on Monday 19th January in Clonoe Community Centre.
Five local schools entered teams in both codes for the blitz, which produced a tremendously high level of skill from all involved. Newly-appointed Tyrone Hurling Coach, John Devlin, officiated at the event, ably assisted by Ger Gribben from the Camogie Development Association. Allianz Cumann na mBunscol PRO, Eddie Doris, co-ordinated the day’s events.
In the Hurling competition, Gaelscoil Uí Néill and Primate Dixon P.S. Coalisland both battled bravely, but just fell short – despite their valiant efforts. The successful teams on the day were Master O’ Neill’s St John’s P.S. Kingsisland, and Ms Lavery’s St. Patrick’s P.S. Annaghmore. Both of these schools qualify for the Tyrone Finals in Hurling with an unbeaten record. These two triumphant teams now await the best from the West in further heats to be held in Omagh this week.
The eagerly awaited Tyrone Indoor Hurling Finals Day will be held in Omagh’s Station Centre on Wednesday 28th January.
n the Camogie competition, all five schools competed. Once again, the standard was of a high order. The young camogs from Annaghmore and Primate Dixon gave their all in a bid to qualify, but it wasn’t their day. Gaelscoil Uí Néill were very unlucky in a winner-takes-all final game that saw them narrowly edged out.
That meant Aughamullan P.S. qualified for the Indoor County Final, where they will be joined by St John’s P.S. Kingsisland – who had an impressive 100% win record on the day.
The much anticipated Tyrone Indoor Camogie Finals Day will be held in Omagh’s Station Centre on Thursday 29th January.
