400 is the magic number; 27th June the key date and Tyrone club Drumragh Sarsfields are closing in.
Not many people get the opportunity to become a Record Breaker but with the much appreciated and continued support of sponsors including our title sponsor Tyrone Truck & Trailer the likelihood of the World Record for the most people to participate in an official game of Gaelic football coming northwards is a very real one. The current record holders are Dublin club Whitehall St. Colmcilles.
“It has been fantastic to see mix of people who have registered so far. From grandparents, mums, dads, kids and entire families, the day is certainly going to be a fun-filled one” says Eoin McGread Events Co-ordinator. “We have organised a family fun day, as well as BBQ, live music and treats for everyone to run in parallel with The Great Game, so we are praying for the weather to be kind to us” he added.
The number of registered participants grows daily. Eoin McGread comments that “Local schools have come on board, as has a number of club teams from within and beyond Tyrone and are using the event as a fundraiser for their own causes. I’d encourage clubs and schools to register with us as soon as possible. We will send them a fundraising pack for them to use for their own needs”
Participants need only to play for a minimum of 10 minutes and must touch the ball once to be recognised. However it is important that anyone who wishes to take part must be registered prior to the event to comply with Guinness World Record procedures.
To register simply text your name and number to 07703747381. You will receive your own unique Great Game number, and importantly the time slot that you will be playing.
Additionally nine supporting sponsors are on board to break the world record including Cavanagh Kelly Chartered Accountants, Dimac Sports Grounds, Floors Direct, P. Fahy and Co., B.G.I Direct Furniture Fittings, Scott & Ewing, MCE Services, Sallys of Omagh and Modern Tyres.
