Omagh Golf Club hosted one of its largest ever Golf Classics on Friday past when the Beragh Red Knights GAA and Breacach Handball Club brought over 55 fourballs to the market town Golf Course.
The weather also played it part as the morning dampness gave way to one of the best days of what has been a wet summer to date. The Golf Course was in magnificent order and that made for a very enjoyable day for all participants, organisers and sponsors. At the end of a marathon days golf, it was however a local team that picked up the spoils and earned themselves a super prize of a accommodation, food and two rounds of golf at the brilliant Carton House Golf Course.
The four very happy winners (pictured) were Brian McCullagh, Mark McCullagh, Martin McCarron and Colm Ward. The runners up were Brendan McLaughlin, Liam Torney, Liam Maxwell and Damian McGartland with Jimmy Colton (Captain, Omagh Golf Club) Noel Colton, Eugene McClements and Malachy McClements taking third place.
The Nearest the Pin prize was won by Jake Barrett from Newtownards and the Longest Drive was won by the big hitting Niall Teague from Dromore.
All in all it was a hugely successful event for the Beragh Red Knights GAA Club. Their Chairman, Hugh McNamee praised the efforts of all who organised the event, the hosts Omagh Golf Club, those who participated in it and very importantly those who sponsored the Greens and the Tees and the main sponsors J McAleers & Sons, Curr Road, Beragh and Paul Tallon, Medical Hall, Sixmilecross.
As part of the event money was raised for the local charity Termonmaguirc Cancer Patients Comfort Fund. All present showed huge generosity with Hugh McNamee handing over a cheque for £1,140.00 to representatives from the charity Joey Kelly and Jean Coyle.
Such was the success of this Golf Classic, thoughts are already turning to the possibility of making it an annual event.
