The county senior camogs continued their training on Sunday in Garvaghey. Jim McCormick from Keady took a one off session with the girls in preparation for their NCL fixture on Sunday 23rd. Tyrone will play table toppers Kerry in what should be the toughest test thus far for the red hands. Kerry are undefeated in two games having beaten Limerick in their last outing. The half way venue has yet yet to be set for the fixture and Tyrone are still without Emma McAliskey with a broken finger in the first game of the season. There are however no other injury worries for the team to contend with.
Ulster camogie ran a Camogie Coaches, ‘School of Excellence’ Workshop in the Mid Ulster Sports Arena Cookstown on Saturday. All Ireland club winning manager of Eoghan Rua , Derry, Joe Passmore was the guest coach delivering the session. Joe was aided by players from his own club and also senior county Tyrone players. In attendance were over 16 coaches from all over Ulster and they were shown various drills and tips to take back to their training sessions. Tyrone camogie would like to thank Joe, Niall Jackman , Lisa McAliskey and Ger Gribben for all their hard work in setting up and delivering the excellent session.
The Camogie Association are pleased to announce their involvement in the 2014 Pan Celtic festival which is taking place in Derry, running from 22nd- 27th April.
The Camogie competition is open to senior (3grades) and under 16 (3grades) squads and will be held on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th April.
The U16 competition will take place in Owenbeg Centre of Excellence (Dungiven) as a one day event. It is 15 a-side competition.
The senior competition will take place in various pitches in Derry City. The three senior finals will be held on Sunday in Celtic Park. Again it is 15 a-side competition.
Clubs are asked to give this invitation careful consideration. The closing date has been extended to March 21st so that the maximum participation can be attained.
There are still places for clubs wishing to host families for this year’s Féile. Currently there are 36 Ulster camogie teams entered into the competition and it was announced at an Ulster council meeting by Mary O’Connor , Director of camogie, that this year’s Féile will be 30% larger than in previous years. It has been agreed at the meeting that there will be no Ulster camogie Féile this year due to the All Ireland Féile being held in Ulster. This decision will be reviewed next year for the 2015 competition.
All club registrars should now have received their login details allowing them access to the online Servasport registration system. It is vital that all players, management and club members are registered onto the system before the end of March. Affiliation fees have to be paid to the county registrar before the end of March and clubs should note that there is no staggered payment method this year and payment has to be made by the end of March. Clubs should contact Josephine McKeown, County registrar, as soon as possible so that each clubs final total payment can be finalised. Josephine will be able to advise on the euro exchange rate that will apply to the fees owed.
The county camogie leagues begin this weekend with the under 14’s playing their first matches on Sunday. We wish all the clubs a successful and injury free year ahead which will run to the middle of September.
