Clann na nGael – Official Launch of Club History
Friday 23rd September 2011 with Guest Speaker Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh.
The much awaited book detailing the history of G.A.A. in the Donagheady parish is now complete and to mark the event the club is having an official “Launch Night” on Friday 23rd September in Aughabrack Community Hall. The book (400 pages in total) chronicles G.A.A. activity for a 90 year period beginning with the very first affiliated club in the parish in 1921 (Dunamanagh Red Hugh’s) right up to the end of the 2010 season.
The book, co-written by Danny Devine and Niall “Barney” Conway, has the very original title, “The Prairie Fires of Aughabrack and Dunamanagh”. The title stems from a comment made by the founding father of the G.A.A., Michael Cusack, who some time after the formation of the G.A.A. proclaimed that Gaelic games had swept through the country “like a prairie fire”.
The event itself will be a fantastic night of nostalgia and reminiscence finishing off with none other than “the voice of G.A.A.” himself Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh as guest speaker. We are honoured and privileged to welcome such “G.A.A. Royalty” to the parish and would urge anyone interested in attending to book their tickets as early as possible as admission on the night is strictly by ticket only. Information is also on the club website with tickets available at £10 each from Niall Conway (07875855354), Ambrose Houston (07980698635), Adrian Conway (07793782255) and Declan Devine (07793983283).
