Club Tyrone celebrates 25th anniversary

Twenty-five years ago today, 4 July 2001, Club Tyrone was formally launched at a well-attended event in the Greenvale Hotel, Cookstown.

Rather than the launch of something totally new, Club Tyrone was of course a straightforward re-branding of Tyrone GAA’s Millennium Fund. It in turn had been set up in 1995 to raise £500,000 for Tyrone GAA by the year 2000, then coming into view as The Millennium Year.

Club Tyrone began and continues as a coming together of people committed to the Tyrone GAA cause. In Club Tyrone you put in, you don’t take out.

That ‘putting in’ is now heading towards the £7m mark.

And it has helped resource the most glorious era in Tyrone’s GAA history.

These past 25 years have seen us win, among much else, 15 All-Ireland football titles (4 x Senior, 5 x U20/21 and 6 x Minor), 30 Ulster titles (8 x Senior, 11 x Under 20/21 and 11 x Minor), two National Leagues, 12 McKenna Cups, and two Nickey Rackard and two Lory Meagher Cups.

And at the same time, Tyrone has planned, built and paid for its thriving Garvaghey Centre.

It’s been a great 25 years. Though sadly many of those stellar people who helped Club Tyrone along the road are no longer with us.

But our focus now very much has to be on the next 25 years. Interested in being part of it all? Come and join us at https://tyronegaa.ie/club-tyrone/
