The 2025 Annual County Convention of Tyrone GAA was held at Garvaghey on Monday 15th December.

Chairperson Martin Sludden addressed delegates, reflecting on a year marked with both challenges and achievements. The success of our Inter-County sides was the highlight of the year, with All-Ireland titles for the U20 and Minor footballers, Ulster Shield titles for the Minor and U20 hurlers, and successes for the U15 and U16 football squads.

On the club scene, he remarked that our Club Championships continue to be the envy of many, with the maiden Senior Football title for Loughmacrory St Teresa’s capping a wonderful series of games. Martin thanked the CCC, Finance, Communications, Referees, Language and Culture, Facilities and Safety sub-committees, alongside Tyrone TV and all the Gatemen and Stewards for their dedication in delivering another successful campaign. However, he did caution that finding a better balance to the club calendar remained a significant challenge for the county and urged clubs to pilot new ideas, challenge old habits and help put players first.

Martin thanked the sponsors who had supported Tyrone GAA throughout the year and was delighted to announce a new three-year partnership with Tyrone Credit Unions as the title sponsors for our underage Leagues and Championships. This builds on a new six-year agreement with our main sponsor McAleer & Rushe and a three-year extension with Connollys of Moy as sponsors of our adult championships.

The ongoing work of the A5: Enough is Enough group, led by Niall McKenna, was commended, and he wished them well in their continuing efforts to bring the project to an outcome which reflects the wishes of the vast majority of road users and local communities. Addressing the uncertainty around the redevelopment of Casement Park, Martin told delegates that the Gaels of Antrim have gone without for too long and deserve a modern stadium that reflects their needs but questioned the wisdom in spending hundreds of millions on a single stadium while other stadia in the province show need for significant capital investment.
