‘Indoor Hurling / Camogie’ heats: Loughview
A heat of the annual Allianz Cumann na mBunscol
5-a-side ‘Indoor Hurling and Camogie’ for primary schools was held recently in Dungannon’s Loughview Centre. A total of 6 local schools entered teams in both codes for the qualifying heats, which produced an extremely high level of skill from all involved.
A series of league games in the Camogie section were very keenly contested. Blessed Patrick O’ Loughran P.S. Castlecaulfield and their near-neighbours from St. Patrick’s P.S. Donaghmore both competed valiantly. The future looks bright for both teams. In the end, both fell just short of a Semi-final berth. A talented, energetic St. Patrick’s P.S. Dungannon team was narrowly beaten in an end-to-end first Semi Final by Derrylatinee P.S. The second Semi-final was an epic encounter. Three late goals broke the brave resistance of the Edendork girls, in a match that will live long in the memory. The Eglish girls, from Roan P.S. showed a great never-say-die resilience to prevail. This all means that it will be the girls from Roan P.S. and their counterparts from St. Francis P.S. Derrylatinee qualifying for the Tyrone Camogie Finals. These two triumphant teams now await the best from the West Tyrone heats to be held in Omagh this week.
The eagerly awaited Finals’ Day will be held in Omagh at the end of January. Exciting times lie ahead for these talented pupils!
Meanwhile, the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Hurling section witnessed 5 schools compete. Once again, the standard of play was of an extremely high order. This is testament to the great coaching work being done by many people in our Primary Schools.
After another absorbing series of round-robin play, Roan St Patrick’s PS, Eglish and Edendork P.S. both qualified for Hurling Finals’ Day. Only one goal separated both qualifiers in the round-robin stage, closely matched as they are.
The eagerly awaited Finals’ Day will be held in Omagh at the end of January. Our congratulations and best wishes go to all the children who participated in these games. Exciting times lie ahead for these supremely talented pupils!
Tyrone P.S. Hurling Coach, Declan Sherlock, officiated at the event, ably assisted by Mickey Glover from the Ulster GAA Coaching Council. Recently appointed Allianz Cumann na mBunscol PRO, Eddie Doris, co-ordinated events on the day.
