O’ Neill Park Stand to be named in honour of late Dessie Slater

Dungannon Thomas Clarke GFC in consultation with the Slater family are to name the stand at O’Neill Park in honour of the late Dessie Slater. Dean Colum Curry PP Dungannon will dedicate the stand following a mass in the Clarkes’ Clubroom on Friday 3rd June at 7.30pm. All are welcome  to attend

Dessie’s involvement in the GAA saw him give 50 years continuous service to the Clarke’s both as a player, administrator and club referee.

In his playing career Dessie also represented Tyrone at all levels. He  also picked up county minor medals in 1962 and 1963, intermediate championships in 1963 and 1972, and was part of fellow Clarkesman Art McRory’s back-up team as Tyrone marched to their first All-Ireland final in 1986. But it was as a club and inter-county referee that he became best known. In a remarkable career spanning 32 years he holds the unique distinction of having refereed three Tyrone Senior Championship finals in a row, from 1991 to 1993.
The Dessie Slater Stand ensures that Dessie’ s lifetime commitment and contribution to his beloved club and county will both be recognised and remembered by generations to come and is a fitting and appropriate tribute to one of the Clarkes and Tyrone’s finest ever.
