Dungannon Sport For all Christmas Party

On Wednesday 20th December Geraldine Christie, Kathleen Brogan, Ruth Brown (Active Community Coaches) and Orla O’ Neill GAA Games Promotion Officer (GPO) organized ‘Sports For All Christmas Party’ at Dungannon Leisure Centre.
This event was divided into two sessions.  The morning session included children with a range of special needs.  A large number attended and it proved to be very successful and an enjoyable event.  The aim was to encourage and promote ‘Sports For All’ with a touch of Christmas spirit.  All children were able to avail of a range of games and participate at their own pace and ease.  Coaches were on hand to supervise and support individual children to ensure they were having fun.
It was extremely beneficial to observe the children interacting with each other and enjoying the variety of games.  Moreover, there was an added sense of enjoyment and excitement when Santa arrived and the children were able to tell their ‘wish lists’ in the hope of Santa delivering their presents on Christmas eve.
The afternoon session was equally successful and those who attended were adults who have a range of disabilities.  All individuals were able to avail and participate in a number of sports and games.  Again coaches were there to assist, support and ensure fun and enjoyment for everyone.  Equally, the adults were pleased to be greeted by Santa who heard their ‘wish lists’.
Also, it was a pleasure to have the Mayor of Dungannon Mr. Kenneth Reid in attendance at the Sport For All Day Event.  The afternoon ended with music and dancing and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
