Tyrone stars Connor McAliskey and Conor Meyler have thrown their weight behind a campaign to keep young people safe on-line.
The Red Hand county is leading the way in efforts to protect its youth against the danger posed by the mis-use of social media.
The county executive’s Health and Wellbeing Committee is offering specialist training to club officers to help them offer advice and guidance on threats which can appear from the worldwide web.
“The GAA in Tyrone has prioritised the safety of young people using Social Media as a key issue,” said Health and Wellbeing Committee member and Children’s Officer Adrian Nugent.
“The county’s Health and Wellbeing Committee is working in partnership with the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland to address E-Safety matters and Social Media concerns.
“Clubs have their own roles to play, and can avail of assistance and training in order to help ensure their young members are not placed in danger.”
The Tyrone Health and Wellbeing Committee has organised a training evening on E-Safety/Keeping Safe online and the impacts of Social Media in our organisation.
Health and Wellbeing Officers, Children’s Officers and Chairpersons from all clubs are invited to participate.
The event takes place on Thursday 22nd October from 7.30pm till 9.30pm at the Garvaghey Centre of Excellence.
Booking can be made by contacting any member of the Health and Wellbeing Committee at HWB@tyrone.gaa.ie
