It was a glorious sunny Sunday afternoon as Tyrone senior champions Eglish welcomed Armagh champions Madden to Father Connolly Park in the Ulster Intermediate championship tie. Madden has lost their first game in the three way round robin series against Clonduff of County Down and they needed a win to avoid omission from the competition.
It was Eglish who started the faster with Susan Conlon slotting over a good point with barely a minute on the clock. Shauna Jordan then added a goal from a tight angle after she was picked out by Julie Lagan. From the resulting puck out Maria Jordan received the ball and added another point to the score board. Madden had some good chances but they could only register wide’s. Eglish kept the points coming and soon had a 1-5 to 0-0 lead in the first fifteen minutes. Eglish goal keeper Kelley Anne Fay showed a good pair of hands on many occasions as Madden continued to try and get their first score. Brenda Burke was very strong in the Eglish defence. It wasn’t until the 18th minute that they took their first point. Eglish scored another two points before Maddens Kelly Mallon hand passed the ball into the back of the net.
Susan Conlon added to her points tally with another fine effort. The teams traded points just before the end.

The second half started in similar vein as the first as Eglish took two quick points with Ciara Donnelly. The Madden goal keeper Sarah McAnallon made some fine stops when a goal looked certain. Annette Jordan then added another point for Eglish. Madden had a flurry of points towards the end of the game before Donnelly again took Eglish’s last point.
