HunkyDorys480Hunky Dorys Tyrone Club Championships – Friday and Saturday

Two of the heavyweights of Tyrone club football go head-to-head in the Hunky Dorys Tyrone  Senior Football Championship at Healy Park in Omagh on Friday evening.  Between them Carrickmore (15) and Coalisland (9) account for 24 senior championship titles in the competitions 109 year history.
Both sides enjoyed relatively comfortable wins in opening round of the championship.  Coalisland were sixteen point winners over Derrylaughan in their first round match played in Edendork.  Carrickmore bolstered this year by three county men in the shape on Conor Gromley, Martin Penrose and Mark Donnelly had five points to spare over last years All Ireland Intermediate champions Cookstown. Throw in for this senior championship match is 8:30pm.
The curtain raiser in Omagh sees the clash of Tattyreagh and Newtownstewart in the Hunky Dorys Tyrone Junior championship quarter final.  The two sides met earlier in the year in the league and on that occasion the result was a 0-11 to 2-5 draw.   It’s sure to be another interesting battle with Newtownstewart hoping that the county experience of goalkeeper Pascal McConnell and Kevin Gallagher will be enough to steer them into the last eight.

On Saturday afternoon the action switches to Carrickmore where the first game Drumragh v Killyman is set to begin at 3pm.  It took a replay in Garvaghey to separate Drumragh and Drumquin in the opening round of the Hunky Dorys Tyrone Junior Football Championship .  Killyman for their part were very narrow winners over Errigal Ciaran.
The main event of the evening sees the clash of Errigal Ciaran and Dromore in the first round replay of the senior football championship.  Dromore went into last Sunday’s match as slight favourites but Errigal Ciaran fought back to draw the game and send the message out that they are not going to give up their 2012 title without a battle.

Minors Take Aim for All Ireland Glory
It’s now seventeen weeks since the minors began their Ulster campaign. On Sunday afternoon they will be one of only three counties participating in the biggest day that Gaelic Football has to offer.  With Mayo doubly represented in the All Ireland football finals the Tyrone men can look forward to a huge crowd for their match.  Mayo blew Monaghan away in the semi final and they will go into the game as warm favourites.
That’s exactly what this Tyrone team are used to facing up against in 2013.  It’s comfortable territory for Mickey Donnelly and his minor panel.  They’ve had a remarkable campaign so far.  One more remarkable result and we’ll all be welcoming the Tom Markham Cup back to Garvaghey on Sunday night at 9pm.
