For Club and County
The Making Of A Sporting Hero
Moth Productions are delighted to announce the launch of For Club and County. This hilarious new play has been written and directed by Seamus O’Rourke and is produced in association with The GAA Social Initiative and the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) programme and is sponsored by Calor.
For Club and County follows the success of Seamus O’Rourke’s Victor’s Dung on the Moth Productions GAA Club Tour. Starring Tommy Sharkey, Karina Charles and Shane O’Connor, the play will start its fundraising tour at the end of October 2012 and continue through to May 2013.
Moth Production’s innovative collaboration with Calor and The GAA was recognised in early September at the Allianz Business to Arts Awards at The Board Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin. The company won the Dublin Airport Authority Arts Award.
“We were delighted to receive the award and I am very pleased that Calor have renewed their sponsorship of the tour and that we will continue the association with The GAA Social Initiative and now the ASAP programme. We plan to take For Club and County to over 100 clubs around Ireland. I am very excited about the production, the cast and crew are top class and as ever it’s great to be working with Seamus,” said Will Govan of Moth Productions.
“Calor Gas is delighted to continue to support Moth Productions and bring For Club and County to communities across the country,” said Paula Kelly, Marketing Manager with Calor Gas.
“Connecting people through sport and culture are the fabric of community and this play will both entertain and help fundraise for local clubs through the GAA Social Initiative and the ASAP programme.”
“GAA Social Initiative clubs coming together to enjoy theatre that represents our games provedvery popular last season and I’m sure it will again with Moth Production’s new tour,” added GAA Community and Health Promotion Manager, Colin Regan. “For Club and County will also help deliver the positive message of the ASAP programme to clubs around the country and I wish it every success in this endeavour.”
There are just two weeks to go before the county final and Matt “the Maestro”, manager of Tanaree’s senior football side, is determined to end the clubs 23-year run of bad form. Their hopes are dashed as their dual football and hurling star Ritchie Brown busts his knee dipping sheep. But has Richie’s girlfriend, the wily Jenny, found the answer in Arthur Polanski, who just happens to be the spit of Ritchie Brown? Just because he’s not a member of the country, let alone the club, doesn’t mean he can’t play in the final. And he doesn’t have to speak English, he just has to talk GAA!
For Club and County: The Making of a Sporting Hero will tour GAA Clubs from October 2012 to May 2013.
