The best wishes of Gaelic Tyrone go to our two 2016 All-Stars, Mattie Donnelly and Peter Harte. The All-Stars don’t always get it right … but these two Awards are richly deserved. Quality but unassuming men who play quality and spectacular football.
Since Kevin McCabe won our first Award away back in 1980, a further 22 Tyrone men have followed him onto All-Stars teams … Eugene McKenna (3), Frank McGuigan, John Lynch, Plunkett Donaghy, Damian O’Hagan, Peter Canavan (6), Fay Devlin, Finbarr McConnell, Stephen O’Neill (3), Cormac McAnallen, Conor Gormley (3), Philip Jordan (4), Sean Cavanagh (5), Brian Dooher (3), Brian McGuigan, Ryan McMenamin, Eoin Mulligan, Justin McMahon, Davy Harte, Enda McGinley, Mattie Donnelly (2) and now Peter Harte. Tyrone men have also filled every position on All-Star teams, from goalkeeper to No 15. Full-forward has been our most popular position with Frank McGuigan, Eugene McKenna, Damian O’Hagan, Stephen O’Neill and Sean Cavanagh all being selected there.
Finally, all of Gaelic Tyrone is delighted too to see our Ulster colleague, Donegal’s wonderful Ryan McHugh also selected on the 2016 team. A truly great footballer. Go maire sé a nuaíocht.
