Whistlin’ Donkeys Take to Gortin Stage
The Summer Scene kicks off with one of Tyrone’s most popular Groups taking to the stage in Gortin this Friday 10th July. The Whistlin’ Donkeys, a band of six lively home grown Tyrone men, will perform their show of new age Irish folk music at the Gortin Rouskey Social Centre (Beside the St. Patrick’s Primary School). This concert marks the return of the Big Bands to Gortin ‘Hall’ which was one of the most popular Dance Hall Venues in Tyrone during the 1970 and early 80’s. The show is being brought to the village by Gortin St. Patrick’s GAA club, who continue to work to promote local events and keep the community entertained whilst raising much needed funds for the Club’s Development Projects.
The Whistlin’ Donkeys continue to grow in popularity and are fresh off the back of a ‘Whistle’ Stop Tour to the USA which followed the release of their new single in April, and the success of their Christmas release which reached 17 in the download charts. Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Cathal McCullagh said, “It will be great to get one of the best local bands about to make an appearance at our local venue. Gortin has a long tradition of being a great place for big bands to put on a great show and this event is set to be no exception. For us in Gortin St Patrick’s, this event is about providing local people with a big show, having a good night out and at the same time helping our club to grow and develop. We are all looking forward to a great night – and one of many more to come’
Tickets for this event – sure to be a sell out – are available for £10 (£12 payable at the door) from local shops and pubs in Gortin, or from any member of the club. Facebook; GortinSperrinFest
