Health & Wellbeing workshop in Garvaghey tonight

GAA clubs in Tyrone have been doing their fair share of work in relation to improving the health and wellbeing of their members.
In a time when the pressures of life affect our young and older people, the GAA has been playing an increasingly active role in providing support and signposting clubs to the services available locally.
The Tyrone Health and Wellbeing Committee has been particularly active in this area, and is currently working on a number of projects and initiatives.
The Committee is hosting a workshop at Garvaghey on Thursday November 16 @ 7pm, with the aim of providing club officers and members with resources and information they can use within their club and community.
Tyrone clubs continue to recognise the impact of their activities on the health and wellbeing of their communities and also the impact health and wellbeing is having on their clubs.
To continue to develop the work being done by clubs in this area, the County Health and Wellbeing Committee is once again working with local clubs and local service providers to provide information and advice on various health and wellbeing issues.
In preparation, over the month of September, the committee engaged with clubs to establish the areas they wanted help or advice on.
Feedback from clubs has formed the content of the forthcoming health and wellbeing network workshop on Thursday November 16, starting at 7pm.
All clubs are invited to send all any interested individuals, including health and wellbeing officers/committee members.
The evening will feature local support services available to provide information on what is available in the Tyrone area and to answer any queries.
Maura McMenamin from Ulster GAA will provide essential information on gambling awareness for GAA clubs, and clubs will have the opportunity to discuss what has worked well for them to date and how their work in this area can develop further.
Following another successful health and wellbeing officer training evening recently delivered in Brackville, it is hoped that clubs will take this opportunity to meet and discuss the potential for further development of the role in their club and community.
“Clubs throughout Tyrone have been doing brilliant work in relation to putting in place various health and wellbeing programmes and events for their communities, and their impact cannot be underestimated,” said Tyrone Health and Wellbeing Committee chairperson Fiona Teague.
“Whilst the core business of GAA clubs is gaelic games and culture, there is a growing body of work that is taking place in local clubs that is having a true positive impact on the health and wellbeing of their members and the wider community. I hope clubs take this opportunity to come along to share their experiences and learn from the information that we will provide on the night”
