The 2012 GAA season begins again with a variety of events being held in January and February prior to the beginning of the outdoor club playing season.
Firstly there is the Scór na nÓg Ulster final which is to be held in Galbally Community Centre on Saturday 14th January 2012. This is one of the premier venues in Tyrone for such an event as this. On show will be the cream of cultural talent from all over the province of Ulster. Seven of the nine counties in Ulster will be represented in the eight disciplines which make up the Scór programme.  The last final which was held in Galbally was only in the very recent past and on that occasion the hall was packed to the doors. The forthcoming event promises to offer the same if not better talent with representatives from five of Tyrone’s clubs.
Tyrone will be represented in seven out of the eight disciplines.  This is an honest and accurate reflection of the work being done by the clubs in Tyrone and hopefully the final results will further underpin this fact.  Omagh St Enda’s carry the hopes of Tyrone in the Rince Foirne, Ballad Group and Novelty Act; Ciara Fox, from Greencastle in Solo Singing; Fintona in Instrumental Music; An Charraig Mhór in Sett dancing and Trillick in Tráth na gCeist and will go on to win Ulster titles and qualify for the All Ireland Final in The Theatre Royal, Castlebar, Co Mayo on Saturday 18th February 2012. Last year Tyrone had three contestants in the final, winning the Ceol Uirlise title with Edendork. Let us see all the Scór supporters in Tyrone at the Ulster finals to give encouragement and support to the Tyrone clubs in their quest for All Ireland titles.
Following the Scór na nÓg Ulster Final very closely will be the preliminary rounds of Scór Sinsear when the adult talent in Tyrone will go on show. The opening preliminary round, for East Tyrone clubs, will be held in Killeeshil Community Centre on Friday 27th January at 8.00 pm. The second preliminary round will be held in St Eugene’s Hall, Newtownstewart on Saturday 28th January at 6.30 pm. This heat will cater for the clubs in the West Tyrone area. The third and final preliminary round will be held in the Eskra Community Centre, at 6.30 pm on Sunday 24th January 2012. Clubs are encouraged to send their competitors to their nearest venue. Clubs are also reminded that they must enter at least two of the eight disciplines in order to take part in the competitions.  All clubs in the county are encouraged to take part in this year’s competition and continue in the long standing tradition of high levels of participation in cultural activities. Tyrone still remains at the top of the Roll of Honour of All Ireland title holders and to maintain this place we need to continue with the production of good quality performers and performances.
The Semi-Finals will take place in Dean Maguirc College, Carrickmore at 8.00 pm on Friday 10th February 2012. The second Semi-Final will take place at the Dún Uladh Cultural Centre in Killyclogher on the Sunday evening 12th February 2012 at 6.30 pm. The Tyrone final of Scór Sinsear will be held in Coalisland Parochial Hall on Sunday 26th February 2012 at 3.00 pm. The Ulster Semi-Final will be held in Glenswilley Community Centre on Friday 9th March at 8.00 pm with the Ulster Final being held on Saturday 24th March 2010. The venue has yet to be decided. The All Ireland Final will be held, as usual, in the INEC in Killarney on Saturday 28th April 2012 at 3.00 pm.
