GAA Clubs in Dungannon come together to form one team for “Ireland Lights Up” 2022
The GAA’s popular “ walking initiative started on 19th January in partnership with RTE’s Operation Transformation and Get Ireland Walking.
Ireland Lights Up encourages GAA clubs across the 32 counties to turn on their floodlights and open their walking tracks to enable their local communities to come together to walk and talk in a safe environment during the long dark evenings of winter.
In Dungannon this year the 4 GAA clubs (Aodh Ruadh, Naomh Treasa, Thomas Clarkes and Eoghan Ruadh) decided to come together as a community to enter this campaign. They have also encouraged members of Dungannon Little Running Club (DLRC)and reached out to the Park Run organisers to also join up and help in the challenge.
Participating clubs will be asked to open their gates on any or all evenings for the duration of the campaign – Wednesday 19th January – Wednesday 2nd March 2022. Eoghan Ruadh Hurling Club have the ideal community walking track, covering approx. 670m per lap. It has street lighting from 6am every morning until 11pm each night. They openly encourage everyone to use their facilities but to respect them also.
This is a community initiative and enables everyone to develop their physical, mental and social health which couldn’t be more timely given the present circumstances. There are also a few times throughout the week when there will be volunteers about so no one feels they’ve to walk alone.

Eoghan Ruadh Hurling track has walkers every evening.
Dungannon Park Run/Walk – Saturdays.
DLRC – Tuesday and Thursday 7pm. Sunday 10am from Newell Stores.
We hope to reach the 4000km target by 23rd February in order to be entered into the O’Neill’s Prize Draw.
