Jim Curran R.I.P.

By Gerard Sun 23rd Aug

The Officers and Members of Tyrone GAA, together with the players and management of the County’s senior football panel learn with deep regret of the death of Jim Curran.
Jim was a former playing member of the O’Donovan Rossa GAC, Ardboe, who later became Club Chairman, and was probably best known as the Club’s former referee. As one of the country’s top referees Jim officiated, with distiction, at all club and county levels, highlighted with his taking charge of the Ulster SFC final in 1998, and the All-Ireland SFC Club final in 1993.
Jim was elected as the first Chairman of the newly-formed Tyrone Games Administration Committee (which replaced the Activities Board), in 1990, where he served a three-year period. He was a member of the Tyrone County Executive and the county’s Ulster Council representative from 1995 to 2001.
In 2003, Jim was invited by Mickey Harte to join the Tyrone senior football management team where he played a very significant logistics role for a period of fifteen years, and of course enjoying most of all, the All-Ireland successes in 2003, 2005 and 2008.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Jim’s wife Glenda, sons Paul and Declan, daughters Nuala, Roisin, Abigail, Madison, Teresa, and Jessica, his brothers, sisters and the wider family circle on their very sad loss.
