Ladies hit Goal Rush

Ladies national league
TYRONE 5-7
DONEGAL 0-10
Tyrone turned in a powerhouse goalscoring performance at Augher on Saturday to ease their relegation worries in division one of the Tesco Homegrown national league. A five goal haul proved crucial for the home side as they accounted for a weakened Donegal who were out of sorts throughout. The visitors trailed 3-2 to 0-4 at the break but they started well, Gearldine McLaughlin hitting 0-2 in a blistering opening two minute spell that also saw Roisin Friel rattle the crossbar. Tyrone got into their stride nine minutes in when Gemma Begley finished crisply to the net and after Cathy Donnelly hit a second goal Begley slotted home the first of two penaltys when Shannon Quinn was upended. All the visitors could muster was two points from the boot of Eilish Ward.
With the wind at their backs in the second half Donegal were quick off the mark, McLaughlin and Ward on target with points, but hopes of a sustained comeback were scuppered when Quinn, operating at full forward, beat goalkeeper Niamh Mailey from close range with Mary Cassidy latching on a point.  Guthrie kept the Donegal flag flying with two well taken long range points to leave eight points between them but as a contest this one was over, Begley scored a fifth goal from the penalty spot when substitute Lycrceca Quinn was brought down and the scoring was wrapped up when Friel and Conwell exchanged points in the closing stages.
A much needed win for Tyrone  ahead of the final round of the league against the Ulster champions Monaghan and then the Ulster championship. There were several fine performances, Shannon Quinn, Catriona McGahan, Cathy Donnelly, Laura McGillion and Gemma Begley in particular stood out.
