LADIES GAA
Bord Gais Ladies National Football League
TYRONE 3-10
MAYO 3-8
Despite hitting 1-7 (1-6 from play) Mayos Cora Staunton found herself on the losing side of their penultimate Bord Gais national league fixture as Tyrone virtually assured themselves of top flight football again for 2012 with a narrow 3-10 to 3-8 win at Eskra.
A late goal from Gemma Begley sealed the win for Martina Dillons side after they trailed throughout with Staunton outstanding again, Tyrone having a difficult time to control her. Mc Nicolas and Hannahoe also found the net as Tyrone looked on the rocks. The inspirational Cathy Donnelly hit 0-4, Laura McGreesh ended with 2-1 with Donnellys lung busting run from midfield with minutes to go set up the match winning goal. Donnelly got a shot in, goalkeeper Byrne got something on it but Begley stabbed home to the net.
The result leaves Tyrone on seven points in fourth spot, below them Laois Galway, Kildare and Mayo ahead of Tyrone’s trip to Cork next week. Laois and Galway meet in their final game and with Mayo relegated the losers of that game look set to join them whatever happens in Munster.
A bright display by Tyrone and a vital win for Dillons side.
