Official Opening of Garvaghey Skills Wall
The skill of the players, the intensity of the tackling and the excitement of the games in this year’s senior hurling championship once again have strengthened the claim that hurling is the best field game in the world. Granted, only some counties are able to perform at such a high level. All the others strive to improve and aspire to greatness. Tír Eoghain is deemed as one of the weak counties in hurling but there is nothing weak about the efforts made by the small group of clubs throughout the county. The aim is to keep hurling flourishing and to improve skill levels. Tír Eoghain will take a big step forward this weekend with the official opening of the Hurling Skills Wall in Garvaghey. The weekend hurling festival gets underway this Friday 1st August, with a coaching sessions for the Under 14 development squad led by Clare’s Fergie O’Laughlin, who has taken on the role of mentor for Tír Eoghain. Former and current adult county players who brought success to the county in 1996, 2009, 2012 and 2014 will take part in an open discussion session led by Fergie O’Laughlin and Offaly’s Daithi Regan as well as Tyrone and Ulster coaches and club officers and players and other guest personalities. The discussion is timed for 8.15-9.15pm. An open invitation is extended to everyone interested in hurling. There will be coaching and games for club Under 8, 10 and 12 players under the guidance of Paudie Butler. Paudie’s coaching skills are matched by his enthusiasm for hurling. This will take place on Saturday 2nd August, 10am to 12.30pm. The Official Opening will be performed at 12.30pm, followed by a Skills Sessions from 1pm-1.30pm. Club officers, coaches, players as well as hurling enthusiasts from all over the county are urged to drop in on Friday evening and Saturday morning.
