Leitrim 1-6 Tyrone 4-22
Report courtesy of Teamtalkmag Website
Tyrone have made a very promising start to their Lory Meagher Cup campaign with a productive opening thirty five minutes in Leitrim. At the break they currently lead the home side 1-8 to 1-2. The Red Hands took a while to settle before Aidy Kelly opened the scoring on six minutes. Conor Grogan added to this after 11 minutes but it took a goal on the twentieth minute from Damien Casey to give the scoreline a kickstart. Casey followed this up with two points as Tyrone hit something of a purple patch with two points from Justy Kelly and one each from Casey again and Gerard Gilmore. Although Tyrone look well on top they may rue the twelve first half wides they have had in this entertaining game at Ballinamore.
Tyrone certainly seemed to find their range in the second half as Leitrim struggled to cope with the visitors’ pace and strength. Twenty five minutes into the second period and Tyrone were well on their way to an easy win as they led 2-19 to 1-4. Tyrone continued to dominate and ran up an impressive total of 4-22 as they completely outplayed their opponents. It was certainly a good start to the campaign but Tyrone know they will face stiffer challenges as they seek to make up for the disappointment of defeat in last year’s Lory Meagher competition.
Final score from Ballinamore – Tyrone 4-22 Leitrim 1-6.
