Duckfast Derby
There is much anticipation about the Moy this week as people from near and far get ready for the 2010 An Mhaigh G.A.C. ‘Duckfast Derby’ on the river Blackwater this Sunday (5th September). Hundreds of blue ducks are under starter’s orders in a race which has been attracting huge interest both at home and abroad.
People in Ireland, Britain, America and other parts of the world have been sponsoring ducks and will be eagerly awaiting the outcome of this weekend’s big race, which will commence and finish on the stretch of the river next to the Moy football field.
Proceedings will get underway at 12.00pm with some fun activities and a BBQ at Páirc Thír na nÓg. The big duck race itself is due to start at 2.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in on the fun!
It is not too late for you to enter a duck in the race. A small number of ducks were still available at time of writing. For just £10, you can be in with a chance of winning one of the following big money prizes: 1st Place £1000; 2nd Place £500; 3rd Place £250. There will also be a £50 prize for the next ten ducks across the line and a £10 prize for the next ten ducks after that.
Contact any member of the An Mhaigh G.A.C. committee as soon as possible to give one of these ducks a home. You can also sponsor a duck online by logging onto our club website www.moy-gfc.com or Facebook page and clicking on the ‘Duckfast Derby’ link.
Proceeds from the race will go towards An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg club development. A donation will also be made to Marie Curie Cancer Care NI.
