Omagh District Council recently handed over the final £10,000 of its £75,000 contribution to Garvaghey. In doing so it has become the first of our Tyrone Councils to deliver the £75,000 we originally requested of them. The Council has been a long-standing ally of Tyrone GAA and also contributes significantly to our coaching programmes.
Garvaghey is actually sited within the Omagh Council area and even though the current Council will ‘disappear’ in the next few years under the Review of Public Administration, its hugely-appreciated contribution to Garvaghey will be part of its legacy to this part of Tyrone and the people who live there. As an interesting aside the Council’s armorial bearings include the Red Lion; sword; and severed hand that were prominet in the heraldry of the O’Neills of Tyrone. Shared territories indeed!
