Omagh St Endas Under 12 hurlers pictured with GAA National Coaching Director for Hurling Paudie Butler and club coach Dominic McClements at Healy Park this week. The Omagh players were coached by the Tipperary coach as part of the clubs ongoing development of Hurling.
30 years ago this year (on 14th May to be precise), Omagh entered an U-16 hurling team for the first time after many years of no hurling in the town. That 1981 U16 team was the first team to win a title for Omagh since 1973, in 1983 Omagh won its first ever minor hurling championship, in 1988 the club contested their first and only senior hurling championship final since 1973 while in 1995 the Tyrone and Ulster Minor Shield Championships were annexed – the last ever hurling title to come to the club.
In 2002 the club competed in hurling for the last time until last year when an under ten side competed in Dromore at a county blitz. The club continue to make great strides in developing the oldest of our gaelic games and events like this will long be remembered by these young aspiring hurlers.
