Wally Amaro set to travel to Loughmacrory to take on Ireland’s best in “Wallball Showdown”

Puerto Rico’s former World Champion, Wally Amaro, will make a 4,000 mile round trip to Loughmacrory this coming August to take on the very best GAA handball stars in Ireland as he bids to win back the Lough Showdown Crown he secured at the inaugural event back in 2014.
Two times Irish National Champion, Conor McElduff, newly crowned Mens Open Nationals champion, Galway’s Martin Mulkerrins, recently crowned US Nationals Champion, Killian Carroll, 3 times Mens Open Champion, Armagh’s Charly Shanks and Mens Open 60×30 and 40×20 All Ireland Senior Champion, Westmeath’s Robbie McCarthy, are just a few of the stars set to converge on Loughmacrory’s Wallball Arena this coming August 2016…
The 3rd Annual Lough One Wall Showdown will take place at the new Outdoor fully covered One Wall Handball Complex (and surrounding courts) from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th AUGUST 2016.
This is just the 3rd Open One Wall Handball Tournament organised and hosted by Loughmacrory GAA Handball Club yet it has already established itself as one of the most prominent in Ireland and indeed holds the largest entry for a Major Club Tournament, outside of the hugely prestigious GAA Handball One Wall Nationals in Breaffy Sports Arena, Castlebar.
This event follows the completion of a new £1milion+ Development Project in the Community and the hosting of the inaugural Lough 1Wall Showdown in August 2014. That first event saw a huge entry of 251 players across all grades with over 1000 spectators throughout the Saturday and Sunday action.
The inaugural event saw World Champion, Wally Amaro, travel from Puerto Rico to claim the Mens Open Prize, defeating local hero and two times Mens Open Irish National Champion, Conor McElduff, in the final. Cork’s Catriona Casey, the current All Ireland Senior and Ladies Open National One Wall Champion, has secured the honours in the Ladies Open for the first two runnings of the Tournament.
A massive entry of players from all corners of Ireland has proven to be what makes the Lough Wallball Showdown so special and with over 1,000 spectators packing in around the venue throughout the Tournament weekend, there is no doubt it has proven to be a very special occasion.
Loughmacrory Club will also be launching a New Book in 2016 and will be conducting short profiles, interviews and taking photographs as part of a special feature to be done in the Book on the Tournament for the Book. This book will be highlighting “150 Years of Handball in Loughmacrory” and is coming on the 50th Anniversary since the previous book of “100 years of handball” in the community. Full details of the Book will be released soon.
On Saturday night 13th August at the Tournament, well know Traditional & Folk Music Band, MAD FOR THE ROAD, have been booked to play in the Loughmacrory GAA Clubrooms as part of this highly entertaining weekend and that should also be a great occasion.
The Final Entry Deadline for players to the event is on the Tournament Entry Form and Online at the Official www.Loughmacrory.com Tournament Page. That entry Deadline has been extended to Tuesday 19th JULY 2016 and this deadline will be adhered to in order to guarantee all players the cool new drift Tournament Tee-Shirts for the event.
