Roscommon 1-7 Tyrone 0-12
Tyrone secured their place in the draw for Round 3 of the qualifiers but not before getting a big fright at Dr. Hyde Park, where they scraped past the hosts, Roscommon.
A 29th minute Conor Devaney goal gave the Rossies a 1-2 to 0-2 lead, but Mickey Harte’s charges finished the half well and fought back to draw level at the break with scores from Darren McCurry, Mark Donnelly and Conor McAliskey.
The Red Hands took control after the break, with Darren McCurry firing over four points in a row before Martin Penrose and Seán Cavanagh also pitched in with scores, as the visitors established a seemingly unassailable o-12 to 1-2 lead.
Roscommon didn’t score in the second half until Kevin Higgins hit the target in the 52nd minute, while Tyrone failed to score again in the closing stages as John Evans’ side came charging back with a late burst.
Cathal Cregg sent three frees over, before Donie Shine converted a ’45 which closed the gap to two. However, the hosts couldn’t take their chances late on, spurning two opportunities as the Red Hands hung on for a narrow win.
