The now Annual Ryan Tierney U.18 Memorial Tournament organised by the Clogher Éire Óg’s Gaels and hosted by the both Clubs in the Parish Clogher/Augher takes place on Sunday 17th Feb. The U-18 blitz Group Stages will be played at St. Patrick’s park Clogher and the finals of the Shield and “Ryan Tierney” Perpetual Cup will be played in the afternoon in St. Patrick’s Park Clogher. Last year Ardboe taking part for the first time went on to capture the cup, defeating Dromore 2-5 to 1-7 in an exciting final. They also went on to win the Tyrone Minor Championship final. In the Shield Final, Scotstown overcame host team Gael N.Pádraig 5-6 to 2-11.
Holders Ardboe return to compete in this year and Ardboe stalwart Benny Hurl, speaking ahead of the competition, stated, Winning the “Ryan Tierney Cup” last year was the launch pad for our minor teams great successful run and this competition comes at the right time of the season and acts as great preparation for the Tyrone Minor League campaign which starts a few weeks later. The Competition is very professionally run and it’s a credit to the Clogher Club for organising such a well structured Tournament which allows you to test yourself against teams from neighbouring Counties. “Lets hope we can defend our title”

Following on from the Ryan Tierney tournament, the Big Nostalgic Night of the year is fast approaching for all the Gaels and Supporters of An Clochar Éire Óg’s. After almost 3 years of organization and planning for this Historic milestone in the Club’s History the long wait is almost over. On Sat 23rd Feb 2013 close on 500 Clogher Gaels will converge on the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan 75 years to the day since the present Club was formed to join in the Club’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations. Speaking ahead of the Big Event, newly Elected Club Chairperson and also Gala Committee Chairperson Paul Mc Elroy, along with long serving Club Secretary, Eugene Mc Connell are hoping all the huge amount of time and effort that has gone into the organizing such a huge event will be rewarded with a massive turnout of all the many Clogher Gaels who have had some association with the Club over the past 75 years.
Continuing “Paul stated, no stone has been left unturned in our bid to make this one of the most memorable occasions for all those who attend”. Meticulous attention to detail has gone into every aspect of what has been planned for the night. “This is a night to remember, and to reminisce, but it is also a Night to plan ahead and re focus on how we plan for our Future. In conclusion “Paul stated, we are a small Junior Club, but like all G.A.A. Clubs we have ambitions and high expectations for the future. We are intent on enhancing our Club Facilities so our whole Community can benefit.
Club Secretary, Eugene Mc Connell echoed Paul’s sentiments and added, on the night there will be something to suit both young and Old. The three successful winning teams of 1972 (Junior Champions) 1985 (Div. 3 League Winners) and the 2000 (Junior Champions) will be present, with the 1972 Junior winning Captain Brian Pearson flying In from the U.S.A. The three Replica winning Jersies framed and signed by all the team members will go under auction. Another once off item will be a specially made Tyrone Jersey which incorporates the two successful Team Sponsors carried on a half and half and signed by all the 3 Winning teams who captured the “Sam Maguire” Cup, never before has all the individual signatures of all the members of the 3 Tyrone teams who won the All Ireland been captured on the one specially commissioned Replica Jersey.
The G.A.A. legend Michael O’Muircheartaigh will be present of the night as a Special Guest and the MC on the night will be another leading light in the G.A.A. Jarlath Burns who really adds to the occasion. A further highlight of the night will be the unveiling of Special DVD with a nostalgic look back at some of the Club highlights over the years and some intriguing interviews with some of the key Clogher Gaels Involved with the Club down through the years.
One other key part to the event will be a special acknowledgement to the 4 surviving members of the 1948 team who reached the Senior County Final 3 of which will be present on the night.
Concluding, Eugene and Paul added, there will be a few surprises on the night and something to leave a lasting memory of what should be a Historic occasion. The loud and clear message for all Clogher Gaels and supporters is make sure you are there and don’t miss out .
