The boys from Sacred Heart PS, Rock are the Tyrone primary schools’ 5-a-side indoor champions after they defeated Tyrone star Mark Donnelly’s fancied St Columbkille’s PS, Carrickmore school team in an pulsating final at the Station Centre, Omagh on Wednesday.
Six primary schools from across Tyrone arrived at the centre with high hopes of lifting the crown and representing the county at the Ulster Finals in Cookstown in April. Pupils from Primate Dixon PS, Coalisland, Knocknagor PS, Trillick, St Mary’s PS, Ballygawley and St Scire’s PS, Trillick made up the opposition, as two hours of football, which was expertly refereed by Stevie McNamee, resulted in the Carrickmore lads defeating the Primate Dixon and the boys from the Rock overcoming the Ballygawley side to contest a final which was to prove to be one the most exciting in years.
Outstanding performances for the victors from captain and defender Thomas Mackle, along with Jamie Bloomer and midfielder Shea Daly were instrumental in their 3-2 win although Carrickmore’s goalkeeper Tiernan McGarrity, captain Rory Donnelly and forward Daniel Fullerton gave the performances of their lives to ensure that the contest was alive until the final whistle from Stevie McNamee indicated that it is to be the Rock boys who the whole county will support on April 18th as they attempt to add the Ulster trophy to their collection.
