Scór na nÓg Semi Finals
This coming weekend will see the two semi-finals of Scór na nÓg taking place in Kildress Parish Hall on Friday night, 9th November 2018, at 7.30 pm and in the Dún Uladh Centre at Killyclogher on Sunday 11th November 2018, beginning at 6.00 pm. Patrons should note the changed starting time for the Sunday, previously notified for 5.00 pm but now at the later time of 6.00 pm. Patrons and competitors should also note that access to the Dún Uladh Centre will no earlier than 5.00 pm.
This results from this week end’s competitions will see clubs and competitors qualify for the Tyrone County Final to be held on Sunday 25th November 2018 at 3.00 pm in Killeeshil Community Centre. Competition for the advancing will be high due to the limited number of places in the finals. The talent so far displayed his year has been of an even higher standard than last year. There has been an increase in participation in the Dance disciplines and the interest in the music groups and Ballad groups has been sustained. This augers well for the forthcoming celebration, in 2020, of the Golden Jubilee of the official foundation of the Scór ideal in 1970.
Tyrone’s involvement in Scór over the past fifty years has been exemplary and is quantified by the success levels the county has been able to maintain. It is necessary to bear in mind that this success has manifested itself by the ongoing participations levels of the clubs in Tyrone. The motto must therefore be “Continued and on-going participation is the key to success”.
Success, of course is not only the basis for participation, but enjoyment and the preservation of our culture and heritage must also come high up in the list of motivation.
The semi-finals this weekend will provide a major stepping stone for this year’s County Finals and will display the vast range of talents and abilities currently prevalent in Tyrone among our youth. This should be a major motivator for the adults in our clubs and communities to prepare for participation in the senior section of Scór in the period immediately after Christmas in the New Year.
Let us go forward this year in particular with a much greater anticipation of the celebrations we will be making for Culture and Heritage in Tír Eoghain for 2020.
