Scór 2013
The 2013 GAA season has begun again with a variety of events being held in January and February prior to the beginning of the outdoor club playing season.
Firstly the Scór na nÓg Ulster final was held in St Cecelia’s College on Saturday 12th January 2013.
Tyrone clubs were represented in five of the eight events but unfortunately did not, unusually, succeed in any of the eight disciplines.
This coming weekend sees the Ulster Final of Tráth na gCeist Bórd being held at the Eglish St Patrick’s GAA Centre. This is an all Irish language quiz with three clubs from each county in Ulster taking part. The two best clubs from this event will go on to represent Ulster against the other three provinces at the All Ireland Final to be held in Croke Park on the morning of St Patrick’s Day prior to the All Ireland club football and hurling finals.
This is the first event of this weekend for Coiste Cultúir agus Teanga as the preliminary rounds of  Scór Sinsear also begin on Friday night (25th) at 8.00 pm in Drumquin Parochial Hall. This is a first time for the Wolfe Tones club to host a round of Scór in the recently renovated parochial hall and we wish them every success in this venture..
The second preliminary round will be held in Killyman St Mary’s GAC on the Saturday night (26th) beginning at 6.30 pm. This is a special occasion for the N Mhuire  club who are celebrating their centenary this year. Every success to them not ony in this event but in the many other events they will be undertaking in the celebration of their 100 years in existence.
The third preliminary round will be held in the familiar surroundings of Eglish St Patrick’s GAC on the Sunday evening at 5.00 pm. This is the second culture event for Eglish this weekend with the All Irish quiz on the Friday night. Many thanks to the Gaels of Eglish also for their efforts.
Semi Finals will be held the following weekend with the Friday night, 1st February in St Eugene’s Hall in Newtownstewart at 8.00 pm and the second semi will be held in Dún Uladh Centre in Killyclogher on Sunday 3rd February beginning at 6.00 pm.
This year’s county final will be held again in St Joseph’s Hall in Omagh on Sunday 17th February at 3.00 pm. The final this year will be hosted by the Tattyreagh St Patrick’s Club. Tattyreagh are the third club in the Drumragh parish to host events in the recent past and Coiste Cultúir agus Teanga is very grateful to them for undertaking this important event.
All these events are extremely important in the promotion and development of our culture and heritage in the county. It is equally important that as many clubs as possible participate in Scór every year so that the Gaels of Tyrone can continue to sustain their position nationally as the premier county in Ireland in the promotion of Scór, especially with both Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsear All Ireland finals being held in Derry this year.
Every one is encouraged to come out and not only support these events but enjoy some very talented musicians, dancers singers and Irish Culture displayed at its very best locally here in Tyrone.
