St John’s won the Tyrone Vocational schools U14B title today with a comprehensive display in Trillick. The final score line was St John’s
Dromore 5-8 St Joseph’s Coalisland’s 2-5. It was an all-round team performance by St John’s who playing against a strong breeze managed to keep Coalisland scoreless for long periods. Midway through the first half Rory Burns latched on to a great pass over the top to coolly slot the ball home with his weaker left foot. This was followed by a Simon Garrity goal. St John’s managed to go in at half time just a point in arrears on a score line of 2-3 to 2-2. Shortly after the restart Simon Garrity scored a super goal when he fielded a high ball in and hit it first time to give the Coalisland keeper no chance. St Joseph’s struggled to cope with the powerful Gary Hunter through-out and it was Hunter who put the result beyond any doubt when he goaled ten minutes from time. Others to shine on the day were Phelim Gallagher at corner back, Aidan Lawlor at wing half back, Dermot Logue in midfield and Conor Colton in attack. St John’s now advance to play in the Ulster competition.
