The annual Strabane District Council People First Sports Awards for 2012 were held in the Alley Arts & Conference Centre, Strabane on Tuesday night past and the G.A.A. locally in the Strabane District came away with three deserving awards on what was a great night’s craic hosted by Paddy Hunter of Q101 and addressed by Sports Psychologist John Kremer.
Former Tyrone captain, Brian Dooher was presented with the Hall of Fame Award for his outstanding achievements down through the years for Clann na nGael, Tyrone, Ulster and Ireland.
Mna na Deirge Under 14 girls won the Young Team of the Year Award after winning the Tyrone Grade 2 League and Championship titles in what was an outstanding season for the Castlederg girls.
Strabane Sigersons player Tori McLaughlin received a Special Award for her outstanding contribution at Club, School, County, College and Inter Provincial level in 2012 as she won a Tyrone Junior Club Championship, Ulster and All Ireland Schools titles, Ulster Minor Championship title, All Ireland Freshers 7’s and O’Connor Cup titles, Inter Provincial winner with Ulster and of course the Teamtalkmag.com Young Ladies Player of the Year.
A great night for the G.A.A. in North Tyrone and three very worthy winners honoured with several other local clubs and individuals also nominated on the night.
