In excess of 100 Children attended the 2014 Strabane Sigersons G.A.A. Easter Coaching Camp held over two days at the club grounds which was attended by guest Tyrone players Aidan McCrory & Mattie Donnelly with local Strabane and Tyrone players Danny McBride and Tori McLaughlin also lending their assistance at the event.
This was the 15th year of the Sigersons Easter Coaching Camp with many of the clubs current Senior male and female players having participated as children in such over that period of time.
The Boys & Girls showcased their Gaelic skills through a variety of fun, games and activities at the immaculate facilities at Páirc Mhic Sioghair. The prizes for the best boy and girl were keenly contested in each category but as the clubs Youth Officer Jason Foley, pointed out in his address all of the participants were worthy winners for choosing Gaelic Football as their sport and Sigersons as their Club. All of those in attendance also received club water bottles and wristbands for their attendance and participation.
The winners were as follows: Under 6 – Eimear Love & Fintan Foley, Under 8 – Mia Maguire & Ronan McLaughlin, Under 10 – Lauren Bullock & Gavin Molloy. The Cormac McAnallen Trophies for the Under 12 age group rewarded the best boy & girl not only for their skills on the pitch but also for their attitude towards their coaches and commitment to Gaelic games off it. This year’s worthy winners will often be found down at the pitch practising even on the days they don’t have training. They have already represented the Under 14 teams at the Club and will no doubt have big futures ahead of them with Sigersons. The Best Boy award went to Shane Rouse & the Best Girl to Niambh Foley.
Congratulations are extended to all of the prize winners and indeed to everyone who took part. A massive thank you is also extended to all the coaches who not only helped out over the two days but also to all of the coaches who kindly volunteered their time to assist within the development of the youth structures at Sigersons.
A massive thank you also goes out to the event sponsors namely the Strabane Neighbourhood Health Improvement Project, thanks also to Eclipse Cinemas in Lifford for sponsoring the cinema passes for the winning children and to Supervalu Strabane for covering the travel expenses of the Tyrone players in attendance.
Finally a warm word of thanks is extended to Sigersons hard working Youth Officer Jason Foley who as always pulled out all the stops to ensure that the event was yet another outstanding success.
