Kerry’s real business in Tyrone at the weekend was no doubt their ‘one point/two-pointer’ but around 150 Kerry Gaels also stopped off to get a look at Tyrone’s nearly-completed Garvaghey centre.
Tyrone GAA/Club Tyrone hosted ‘tea and a biscuit’ for the Kingdom followers and gave them a brief tour and outline of the Garvaghey project. Mickey Harte was also on site and was the busiest man on view, posing for photos and signing autographs.
“This was a simple but deliberate and very worthwhile exercise” Club Tyrone Chairman Hugh McAleer explained.
“Contrary to what you might have read in some quarters, Tyrone was hosting a Gaelic football match at the weekend, not a war. And both teams delivered us a fine game. We just wanted to deliver some good ‘Red Hand hospitality’ to people who had travelled the length of Ireland to support their team. It was our honour and delight to do that.”
