Tyrone Attic Stairs GAA Handball Leagues 2013

Tyrone League title showdowns this weekend

The hugely exciting Tyrone Attic Stairs GAA Handball Leagues will reach a climax this weekend with a full programme of finals scheduled over two days at Loughmacrory and Beragh. The climax of the weekend will see the Premier League title showdown as former champion, Shane O’Neill (Breacach) will enter proceedings as a warm favourite to claim the Termonmaguirc Credit Union Cup for a fourth time. O’Neill’s has exhibited impressive form in the league stages, dropping just a ingle league point along the way to Conor McElduff. His opponent for the final was to be decided last night with Johnny Woods requiring one point against Gabhain McCrystal in their final round league meeting.

The Premier League final will be preceded by the Division One decider and will see a clash of experience and youth. Former senior champion, Niall Kerr (Breacach) will take on An Charraig Mhór’s Ryan Mullan in that final after Kerr finished a clear top of the table in the league stages with Mullan just edging out Chris Curran, Martin Toner, Paul Donnelly and the unlucky Ryan Daly, who was forced to withdraw from the event, by a single league point to claim second spot.

In Division 2, Breacach will hold strong claims for the 2013 honours also with three of the last four contenders form the club. Teenage sensation, Sean Kerr, showed superb form in the league stages to claim top spot in Division 2A, just ahead of Cappagh’s Barney McAleer while Conor Kerr (Breacach) and Eamon McCrory (Breacach) finished joint top of Division 2B. That final will finish the programme of finals in Loughmacrory on Saturday evening with the Division 3 final coming first. In that final it will be Carrickmore’s Conor Keenan against Matthew McCartan (Breacach) following that duo’s impressive semi final wins at the weekend over Brian McCrory and Declan McCrory, both Cappagh, respectively.

One of the most competitive divisions was in Division 4 and the final will go ahead as the curtain raiser in Beragh in Sunday at 4pm. The semi finals will take place firstly in Beragh on Fridayevening at 8pm where the line-up will be Turlough Clarke (Breacach) v Eilise McCrory (Breacach) and Pauric Mullan (An Charraig Mhór) v Ciaran Cuddy (An Charraig Mhór).

Meanwhile the Juvenile Leagues have continued to provide excellent handball in 9 different grades over the past fortnight and will conclude this weekend ahead, with the exception of the under 16s. The Juvenile Leagues will conclude with the top four in each grade forming the Tyrone Squad for that grade in 40×20 championships in 2014 and will also be the semi-final line-up in the A Championship for their grade in January 2014. All other players in those grades will go into a B Championship in their grade in January 2014. A complete review of final standings in the Juvenile grades will be in next week’s edition.
