Tyrone Camogie News

The senior county camogie team having narrowly lost their NCL final will now face a new challenge in Ulster. They are playing in their Ulster Camogie Intermediate championship against Down II and Antrim II. The dates for both fixtures are in the process of being rescheduled and should be available within the next week. This competition is ‘round robin’ based with the finals of the junior, intermediate and senior sections being played in Derry on June 15th.
There was some great news for Tyrone seniors Julie Lagan, Aisling Corr, Shauna Jordan, Emma Fitzgerald, Maria Jordan and Ciara McGready as they were chosen to represent their province in the Ulster Gael Linn Camogie Interprovincial squad. Manager Joe Passmore said:
“We have assembled what we think is a good squad for the Junior Gael Linn. The county managers have been extremely helpful and I appreciate their support. One or two players have been unable to commit with work, study and club and county demands on their time. That is perfectly understandable. Also for example Niamh Mallon is undergoing rehab for her knee injury and Karen Tinnelly is out of the country at the minute.”
“There are restrictions on the players that each Province can select at this grade. For instance we are not allowed to choose any players from Derry because they are now at Senior level. And we are only allowed to pick five from Antrim. So that affords players from the other counties an opportunity to play for Ulster which is fantastic for them. I think we have a decent team and these players are well capable of competing at this level. The response from the players has been very positive and enthusiastic.”
“On a personal note, as a Tyrone man I’m really pleased that six players from my native county are getting this opportunity.”
In the domestic front there were wins in Championhip for Eglish, Éire Óg, Doiretreasc and Father Shields in the Post Primary age category.
The semi finals will be Doiretreasc V Éire Óg and Father Shields V Eglish
on 27th May.
The Garvaghey complex hosted the Tyrone camogie Féile and Naomh Treasa Dungannon won the Cup final and will now represent Tyrone in the All Ireland Féile in Limerick on the weekend of July 5th. Derrylaughan won the shield final and supporters were entertained by some very skilful camogie.
Moortown camog Maggie Hagan was presented with her Colleges All Star award on Friday night at a ceremony at the Elk Toomebridge. She received her award for her school St Pius X Magherafelt from Derry senior player Katie McAuley. Maggie was last years Tyrone minor captain and she is an integral part of her own club in Moortown.
Congratulations to the Tyrone hurlers who won in convincing style against Monaghan at Killyclogher on Saturday in the Nicky Raynard cup by a score-line of Tyrone 2:19 Monaghan 1:10.
