The county senior team are preparing for their next NCL fixture against Dublin III’s on Sunday 9th March with a possible double header in Healy Park Omagh fronting the Tyrone hurlers fixture. The team will continue their training at the Garvaghey complex on Sunday with a few players side-lined with minor injuries. This will be Dublin’s first outing in the league this year as they were due to play Cavan who unfortunately withdrew from the competition. Dublin will be strong opposition for the red hands who are still looking for their first points of the season having lost to Limerick last week. The captain was announced last week as Julie Lagan. It is Julie’s second consecutive year as captain and it was no surprise to the team when the news was announced. Julie has all the leadership qualities it takes and she always strives for perfection for her team.
In domestic news the fixtures for league and championship for all age groups have been circulated to all clubs. It is important that these fixtures are circulated to all coaches and players within your clubs as soon as possible. The first league matches will be the under 14’s on March 24th.
The training on the new registration system, Servasport, will be rolled out to all clubs in Tyrone on Tuesday evening in Derrytresk GAC at 7:15pm. All clubs registrars must attend and the invitation is open to any club member who wishes to attend. The Servasport system will be used for the coming season and it will supersede the older excel spreadsheet used in the past. It is an important step forward for the registration process considering the new affiliations scheme is in place also for this year.
ONE of the highlights of the Tyrone sporting calendar is the 14th annual Ulster Herald Sports Personality of the Year Awards. The awards this year were held in Kelly’s Inn, Garvaghey on Friday evening and M.C for the evening was popular BBC Television sports presenter Mark Sidebottom. In the Contribution to Sport Award category, which identifies an individual who has devoted much of their life to their favorite pursuit and whose leadership, organizational skills and authority is respected by their community and competitors alike within their sport. Tyrone camogie was delighted that Ursula Jordan was the winner in that category for the tireless efforts for camogie for both her beloved Eglish and Tyrone. It was without doubt a very popular award on the evening with all the room warmly recognizing the exceptional hard work and dedication that Ursula puts into the game on a daily basis.
Leona Gallagher from Eglish who was voted as Tyrone Volunteer of the year has a day out at Croke Park on Sunday at the All Ireland Senior and Intermediate club camogie finals. Leona will have lunch and a photo opportunity with the President Aileen Lawlor. It’s a small token from the Camogie Association for all the hard work Leona has put into camogie for both her club and county.
