Tyrone senior camogs have booked themselves into the Ulster Intermediate final on Saturday 15th at 2:00pm in the Owenbeg complex in Derry against Antrim II. This year’s competition was a three way ‘round robin’ with Antrim II defeating Down II on Sunday in Casement Park. It’s the second final of the year and the last chance of silverware for the determined young Tyrone squad. Captain Julie Lagan was optimistic but cautious.
“We went into the National League final as major underdogs and we nearly came home with the title. Finals are nearly always a good leveller and nerves can play a part. Our young team really want to get something from all the hard work they have put in from December time. We are prepared mentally and as always we will fight to the end.”
It was in 2011 that Tyrone last lifted an Ulster title when they won the junior section against Monaghan. There are still a lot of those players in the squad and with an injection of new faces this has seen the team become a well balanced outfit.
The senior team and supporters travelled to Slieve Donard on Saturday past to climb the mountain in what was one of the warmest days of the year. The event was a fundraiser which will help in the development of our clubs and county teams. A big thank you to all who were able to take part especially our guides John and Marie McManus. The word is that despite the pain it was well worth it and it was rewarding. Last year the county clubs climbed to the summit of Croagh Patrick so all eyes will be on next year’s event. Suggestions welcome for 2014.
The week will begin for the clubs with Post Primary matches on Monday evening. This league has only another few fixtures to play before the championship final on June 29th. On Wednesday the senior league will begin with Derrylaughan at home to Eglish and Dungannon away to Father Shields.
On Saturday another Go Games Blitz will take place in Eglish. Registration will be at 9:45am and all clubs are asked to contact Leona Gallagher from Eglish to confirm participation for u6, u8, and u10 teams that clubs will be entering. So far this year the Blitz’s have been a remarkable success and the Eglish Blitz is expected to see huge numbers in attendance. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the matches and enjoy the morning.
