The 2013 Ulster camogie awards were held in Kelly’s Inn on Saturday. There was another return this year for Austin O’Callaghan as he again hosted the event. The president of the camogie association Aileen Lawlor was the guest of honour at the star studded event. Shauna Jordan was the winner of the prestigious Intermediate player of the year award for 2013.The well-deserved trophy award was followed by an interview with Austin and the young camog showed her appreciation to Ulster camogie council. Young Tyrone under 14 player Leanne Donnelly was also at the awards and she was presented with the Ulster shield. Everyone from Tyrone camogie would like to thank Ulster camogie for an event that gets stronger from year to year.
Quinn’s Corner was the venue for this year’s Tyrone camogie youth presentation evening on Friday. There was a full house of player’s, supporters and family members in attendance to celebrate the past two years of underage county camogie. The Ulster medals were presented to the girls for the Ulster blitz and Ulster championship. Ulster intermediate player of the year, Shauna Jordan, presented the medals to the proud players of the blitz winners. Coach Gareth Fox presented the medals for the 2013 championship winners. The evening recognised the captains for both year’s and Áine McElroy, Ellie Donnelly, Leanne Donnelly and Orla Coyle all received a Tyrone crested T-shirts. The Player of the year awards were given to Meabh McGleenan, Rona Mallon, Catherine Donnelly and Séana Grogan who also received the newly designed tee shirts. Pat Darcy, Tyrone camogie chairman, gave an inspiring speech to the young players on an evening that was well received. A huge thanks to Quinn’s Corner and all the players from the clubs who made the night such a special one to remember.
Ross Corbett of the Ulster council braced the cold weather on Monday evening to run a CPD, Developing Defensive play and tackling at the MUSA complex in Cookstown. Ross was aptly aided by the young camogs from St Pats Maghera. The session touched on the principles of defensive play and the coaches all received a full set of documentation to take back to their clubs. Tyrone camogie would like to thank Ross for all his excellent support in the past year as he will be leaving his post to take up a new one in his native Cork.
The Teamtalk All-star awards will be held in Bundoran on Friday 29th November. We wish all our players the best of luck, Collette Donnelly, Shauna Jordan, Ciara McGready and Emma McAliskey in the senior camogie player of the year category. Naimh McNulty will be in the minor section for two years in a row.
There will be a county camogie table quiz in McAleers bar on Sunday 1st November from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in aid of county player fund. The entrance fee in only £5 person and anyone is welcome to come along and pit their wits against the Quiz master Sean Murphy. Teams will range from 6 to 8 members and anyone can join any team on the night. A little incentive will be discounted cocktails on that evening!
The county camogie AGM will be held in Quinns’s Corner on Tuesday 3rd December at 7pm for 7.15pm start. All clubs are reminded to return their voting papers and motions to county secretary as soon as possible. It’s an important evening and all clubs are to make sure they have full participation in attendance.
The National Camogie League fixtures for 2014 have been released. Tyrone will be in Division 4 and their opponents will be Cavan, Kerry Dublin, Limerick and Meath with the first fixture being on February 23rd at home to Limerick.
