Tyrone GAA County Fund-Raising Seminar Raises the Bar

By tyronepro Fri 4th Dec

A total of 13 Counties (Armagh, Derry, Donegal, Down, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Limerick, Longford, Roscommon, Tipperary, Tyrone, Waterford and Wicklow) were represented at Tyrone GAA’s first national seminar on successful County GAA fund-raising models held at Garvaghey last Saturday.
Each of the four Provinces had at least two Counties present at the event and were treated to detailed outlines of what a number of Counties are doing on the fund-raising front.
“Despite what some might say, we don’t live in a series of GAA bubbles,” Tyrone County Treasurer Raymond McKeown explained.
“In Tyrone we believe that if there’s good things going on, then we should be sharing them with each other.”
“Selfishness and arm-round-the-homework are not what we’re about.”
On the day those attending were talked through the Club Decies, Derry, Eirne, Rossie and Tyrone models as well as the Down GAA Club/County Draw and the Longford GAA Race-Day.
The event concluded with an intriguing examination by Paul McAnallen of Shift-Control of GAA sponsorship.
Given Saturday’s success, Tyrone now intends to make this an annual event.
“There’s a demand out there for this” our County Treasurer concluded.
“The GAA is nothing if it’s not about self-help. We believe firmly in that in Tyrone and this is just another way of putting it into practice.”
