County Championships, All Ireland Adult Championship Semi Finals, All Ireland Finals, Cumann na mBunscoil are among some of the many items taking centre-stage in County handball at present:
1. Tyrone Juveniles in 8 All Ireland Championship semi finals
Tyrone won a total of twelve Ulster GAA Handball Juvenile Championship titles and will now go on to contest eight grades in the All Ireland Juvenile Championship semi finals next weekend. Final confirmation of exact schedule and venues will be out shortly but it looks like Tyrone players will largely be involved in semi final ties in Monavea (Laois) and Tinryland (Carlow) on Sunday 15th March – full fixtures on our official page when available.
2. Tyrone GAA Handball County Championships Update
All Juvenile Boys and Girls Singles Championship titles have now been decided in the county and Juvenile Doubles and B Singles Championships will commence now in just over 1 week. Meanwhile Eilise McCrory secured her first She’s Ace Tyrone Ladies Open Senior Singles Championship title with Lisa McAleer claiming the Senior B Singles Championship crown. In the Mens grades the 2015 Mens Open Singles Championship decider will go ahead on Thursday 12th March with Darragh Daly and Conor McElduff again to meet in the final, following Thursday night’s semi finals.
3. Tyrone Adults Handballers in 5 All Ireland Singles Finals & 6 Doubles semi finals this weekend
Tyrone are into five All Ireland Adult 40×20 Singles Championship Finals and one of those will go down for decision this Sunday (8th March) in Beragh. Maeve McElduff will meet Limerick’s Martina McMahon in the Ladies Intermediate All Ireland Final as part of a four match programme with three All Ireland Doubles championship semi finals also on that programme. Tyrone will contest six All Ireland Adult doubles championship semi finals in all this weekend.
4. Cumann na mBunscoil update
Connor Owens (Boys 11 & Under Singles), representing Drumduff PS and Patrick McCann & Enda Donaghey (Boys 11 & Under Doubles), representing Oliver Plunkett PS, Beragh, were winners at the recent Ulster Cumann na mBunscoil event hosted in County Tyrone.
The three young Breacach handball club players will now get their chance to play in the National Cumann na mBunscoil Day this Saturday 7th March 2015 in Kingscourt with full lists of players and schedules announced by Croke Park.
5. Awards for Tyrone GAA Handball
Breacach’s Maeve McElduff is one of 12 nominees for the 2014 Ulster Herald Sports Personality of the Year Award and Breacach Club are also in the Youth Team of the Year category at the awards banquet tonight (7th March) in Kelly’s.
Meanwhile a total of 23 Tyrone GAA Handball Juvenile Pl;ayers will be honoured for their outstanding successes achieved in 2014 at the Omagh Sports Forum Awards to honour all sports in the Omagh Council Area tonight (7th March) in Omagh Leisure Complex.
This follows on from last weekend when SEAN KERR was awarded the Omagh Sports Awards Junior Sportstar of the Year for 2014. This is a very prestigious award indeed when considering that all sports in the county are cobvered in this category including gaelic football, boxing, soccer and athletics which were among the nominees.
Previously Johnny Woods had won the Ulster GAA Writers Cormac McAnallen Young Achiever Award for 2014 ahead of Donegal GAA stars Patrick McBrearty and Ryan McHugh while Loughmacrory GAA Handball Club were awarded the Ulster GAA Writers Handball Award for 2014.
Conor McElduff was awarded the Teamtalkmag Tyrone GAA AllStar Handball Award for 2014.
6. World Handball Championships 2015 Entry Information
There will be a host of Tyrone GAA Handball players making the journey to Calgary later this year for the 2015 World Handball Championships and full details on grades, entry and hotel information is now available on the Official Worlds 2015 Website.
7. Lough 1Wall Showdown 2015
Loughmacrory GAA Handball Club launched their brand new One Wall Handball Arena in June 2014 and the inaugural Lough 1Wall Showdown in August. This year, with the Worlds in August 2015, the 2nd running of the Lough 1WALL Showdown will take place on the weekend of Friday 17th – Sunday 19th July 2015. The Club have big plans for this Event in which The Open titles were won in 2014 by Wally Amaro and Catriona Casey. A One Wall Season build-up to the event will be launched on May Bank Holiday weekend from which stage a Team One Wall League will be launched with teams featuring players from Under 10 up to Open grade and up to Masters, in girls and boys codes and take place every week for 5 weeks. This is a very unique League event and details will be released soon.
8. 3 Tyrone Schools win All Ireland 40×20 Colleges Championships
Saturday proved to be another big day of success for Tyrone GAA Handball Juvenile players with three Tyrone Schools winning All Ireland Colleges Championship titles in Kingscourt.
