Tyrone Ladies AGM

“Tyrone ladies gaelic football is set for an historical milestone year as it celebrates its 20^th anniversary during 1992”, that was the message to come out of the Tyrone ladies annual convention from re-elected  county chairman Martin Conway as all the clubs in the county gathered to look over the past twelve months
Conway was returned unopposed in a low key AGM held in Killyclogher earlier in the month, indeed there were no major changes although a couple of positions are still to be filled. Angela Stephenson has taken over the development officer’s role while Donna Bogle is the new children’s officer, the culture and assistant PRO positions are still to be filled.
In his address the county chairman focused on the positives of what had turned out to be a difficult year, he spoke of the shock and horror of the senior county final aftermath, when he and match referee Simon Brady had been left unconscious, he paid tribute to those who had assisted him and Mr Brady and thanked the many clubs and individuals who had shown support.
On the footballing front Mr Conway  paid tribute to the county teams and managers but cautioned that work must be done to develop the younger players in the county if they are to attain the highest goals which of course are “all Ireland titles”.
“The Brendan Martin cup, (the all Ireland ladies senior championship) is very much the target of our senior squad, they are eager to sample the feeling of 2010 again only going one better,  that is very much an achievable goal for this current group of players and those coming through”  enthused Conway, he paid tribute to the management team for 2011 and wished them well in what ever they do in the future.
It was well done to Omagh St Enda’s who reached the all Ireland club final and the Chairman also wished Sperrin Og the best of luck in their bid for all Ireland glory, he was delighted that overall the club season was a success story and he thanked the fixtures committee for their hard work.
The county board are set to launch a referees board in 2012 and will continue to seek new match officials but the need to give respect to match officials was also put across to the delegates at a packed convention.
Tyrone continue to lead the way in terms of registration with 2,907 registered in 2011 an upturn of 91 new members, County registrar Veronica McMenamin pointed out that online registration will be rolled out in 2012 for all clubs and training will be given to clubs, the need to make sure all those involved are registered was once again emphasised to clubs. The county board are also aiming to ensure the continued development of football with an important move to get all those coaching teams at least a fundamental coaching award,
“ We need to improve all the standards across the board and by ensuring that club mentors are qualified is a step in the right direction, the new development officer has identified courses and dates and these will be rolled out, this move will also safeguard the young players, ensuring that they are getting the best coaching, we will try and add to the seventeen or so level one coaches in the county over the next year, that can only be good for the game in the county”  confirmed the Strabane clubman. There was also special mention of the extended coverage in the local media, the chairman also confirmed that the use of Facebook through the Tyrone ladies GFA  has been a massive boost, the ladies will also have a subsection on the main Tyrone GAA website in 2012 as part of the ongoing integration process.
 
Tyrone will begin their 20^th anniversary celebrations at the start of December, the chairman confirmed that the December county board meeting will be hosted by Omagh St Enda’s as this was the venue of the first formative meeting of the Tyrone ladies county board in November 1991. GFA President Pat Quill who had attended the first meetings in Tyrone will be joined by first Tyrone chair Rosemary Carson at this special meeting. All clubs have been asked to send at least two delegates in club gear to the meeting on December 6^th at 8pm, refreshments will also be served on the night as Tyrone kick start what the chairman has described as a pivotal year for the ladies game.
“ This meeting will start our official 20^th anniversary and we are also hosting a big night in the Terrace Omagh to mark the launch at the end of that week, Tyrone has reached a milestone and the next twelve months will be very special, the county board will be pulling together several events to mark so many firsts and we would hope clubs will also mark their formation by celebrating the past twenty years”
 
The AGM concluded with several debates and healthy discussion about Ladies gaelic football in the county , tea was also served by the Cappagh club
